What types of files does the online backup software back up?

Can the software do both on-site and off-site backup? Yes, it does.

How often can it perform backup? Backups may be of almost any frequency:

  • or, if you prefer, manual start instead of automated scheduled backup

How long are files retained? Retention of files is for almost any period you might consider:

  • a certain number of days
  • a week
  • a month
  • a year
  • more than a year
  • or even by number of backups performed vs. by time

Are there any limits to how many computers or backups? No. Unlimited units in the same company, unlimited backup sets, each with its own settings (most services do not provide that ability)

I have very advanced needs. How robust is it? There are very advanced settings like:

  • file filtering, by exclusion, by inclusion, or both
  • pre-backup and post-backup command lines
  • VMware and ShadowProtect support
  • compatibility with StorageCraft

What about very large backups? We offer overnight shipping of external hard drives for seed loads and restores of large backup sizes, which is useful for exceptionally large total storage needs.

We also offer a “split restores” option (our own creation, it is a unique service option not found anywhere else) – which is useful for exceptionally large total storage needs; urgently needed files are restored immediately (unless a single server database is unusually large), then important encrypted files are shipped by external hard drive overnight, and then, for files that would take days to transmit over the Internet, the remaining files are shipped overnight as soon as the remaining encrypted files finish being copied to the external hard drive(s).

What do you charge for the external hard drive seed load or restore service? There is no additional expense for the service, including the split restores option. Some charge a huge amount: Mozy’s Data Shuttle Service ranges from $275 to $575 (from http://mozy.com/pro /server/pricing/ 06-13-2013); CrashPlan’s Restore-To-Door service costs $164.99 (from crashplan.com/ consumer/restore-kit.vtl 06-13-2013). We cover postage when we send the drive to you. You cover the postage to send the drive to us.

How good is the documentation? There is extensive documentation – guides for users and technicians (much more detail, with screenshots, and more useful than others offer).

Does it work with my computer? Yes, unless you have the outdated Novell or another very old out-of-date operating system. Our software works with the most recent few versions of all of these operating systems:

  • recent Windows Server versions
  • recent Windows Workstation versions
  • recent Macintosh versions
  • recent Linux versions
  • recent UNIX Solaris/AIX/HP-UX/FreeBSD versions

Does it cost anything to restore a file? No, you may restore at will and without limits, all included at no additional charge. We’ll even help you do it.

Can it go back to files before the last one backed up? Yes, it can be configured to allow roll back to older versions of files; some services do not, which means that just one night of a bad file not being noticed will result in a good file being overwritten by the bad one (a Carbonite customer came to us after just such an event)

Can it back up files that are in use at the time? On Windows operating systems it backs up a file even if the file is in use.

What kind of backups can it do? It can do full, incremental, and differential backup.

How will I know it is working? There are quality reports by email that confirm backup results and status – in both executive summary form and also in detail for technicians – to the end user and / or a delegated technical support company, and status and logs can also be seen online through the web interface.

Do you charge for support? How about training? We give unlimited support and training at no additional expense with the end user or even the end user’s local delegated information technology service provider

How available are you?  Support for critical restore is 24 / 7 / 365. Please use your regular business hours for all other needs.

May I try it first? Yes, we offer a trial account without any credit card or other personal or business information

  • complimentary doubling of storage space while needed for upgrades and replacements of servers or workstations
  • granular restore from an Exchange email server backup of just a mailbox, or just the Contacts of one mailbox, or even just the Calendar of one mailbox, which can prevent the loss of a current day’s mail; of course, our software also can allow restore of a full Exchange database, which is what other services do
  • granular restore to a WordPress web site of a chosen file or files, which can prevent the loss of current postings, signups, statistics, and more; of course, our software also can allow restore of a complete web site at once and also permits migration of a web site from one hosting provider to another, the two things that other services do
